Energy Efficiency Keeping Up with Codes
Blue Ridge Log Cabins "Building Your Dreams."
Energy codes continue to change from the previous slow adoption fad to the current “Code Requirements” that have been mandated by many states regarding new construction. Blue Ridge Log Cabins has been a premiere log cabin building company for 20 years, and our knowledge and capabilities allow us to offer our customers “Green Certified” homes. We’ve been building these homes ever since the title “Green Certified” became available through the National Association of Home Builders.
Recently, Blue Ridge Log Cabins was asked to build a home in Massachusetts, which has very stringent energy codes for new construction. We were definitely up for the challenge, but this project would require a HERS Rater to certify that we would meet the thermal enclosure checklist requirements. So we called in the experts: Lora Corder and Charlene Morrow, owners of Green River, an environmental consulting agency. Not only were these women familiar with our company, but in 2010 when we built a conference center for the DOE (Department of Energy) at Oak Ridge Laboratory in Tennessee, Green River conducted the blower door test and provided infrared imaging of each room with their special camera equipment. Green River’s test results showed that our log cabin conference center was so air tight, it required us to add a fresh air intake system.
After examining the home thoroughly, Lora and Charlene concluded that the home would comply with the codes, and praised Blue Ridge, saying, “Blue Ridge Log Cabins is far exceeding in adopting green initiatives than most other companies.” Many businesses and builders try to get around incorporating green elements due to the cost and time involved. Green initiatives often require a meticulous building process that takes more time than a regular construction project. But at Blue Ridge Log Cabins, we are dedicated to seeing our green projects through, ensuring that they are up to code and will help your family save on energy costs. What is most important to remember for homeowners is that being preemptive and going forward—starting off green—saves you money in the long run.
Blue Ridge Log Cabins is always on the lookout for the next wave of energy-efficient practices and we continually strive to make sure your cabin is a lasting lifetime investment.
