I remember reading an article in a log home magazine once that talked about the personality of people who own log homes or want to own log homes, as not being satisfied with any other style of home. They were “a breed of their own”. Well, I guess I am one of those types of people. Vm not sure exactly when or hovv the log home bug hit me, ljust know that I have always wanted a log home for as long as I can remember. As the years began to roll by and become greater in number, l began to fear that that dream may not become a reality. Then I met, and married, Larry. He said that he had lived his dreams, but all he was missing was someone to share his life with. Now his desire was to help me live out my dreams.
Several of our first dates were weekend visits to the mountains. One area we kept returning to was Marion, NC. We’d see lots of log homes in the area, and I told Larry that I had always wanted a log home inthe mountains. Next thing I knew, we were buying property in a log home community in McDowell County, NC with a wonderful View ofthe Blue Ridge. Soon after that we were clearing the property to build my dream – a log home! l went out and bought lots of magazines, and we attended several Log Home Shows. Lots of companies had beautiful homes to build – if you could build it yourself, or find someone to build it for you. And then there was the added list of components not included in the package that just seemed to grow longer, with the costs growing longer as well. While the dream of wanting the best is intoxicating, it was important for us to stay within our budget. So we contacted a few contractors who built log homes, only to find that there costs were higher for that type of home than a traditional one. Things just seemed to be against us.
Then we met Stan at the Log Home Show in Charlotte, NC and were introduced to the concept of Blue Ridge Log Cabins. intrigued, we visited the model homes and toured the facility where the homes were made. What an amazing place! We were impressed with the cleanliness of the facility and the thoroughness of each step inthe building process. I don’t think there is any company anywhere that puts their product through a more rigorous inspection for quality!
Back in Stan’s office, we began to discuss the nickels and dimes. With incentives and promotions offered by Blue Ridge, we found that we could build our log home turnkeyl -for some $90,000 less than other quotes we had received. We were sold! The following weeks found us in the process of selecting floor
plans, arranging and rearranging them, and finally completing the final specs. This was not an easy task – for Blue Ridge! Larry, who is known for his ”perfectionist” tendencies (well, he is an electrical engineer), had questions for every aspect of the process. However, Stan and the crew were very gracious with every change we made, finding the information we wanted, and answering all of our questions. And…we can all laugh now!
Today, the house is up and it is just beautiful! Every time vve walk through the door we are amazed -it is just more wonderful than we ever could have imagined. When we talk with neighbors and compare our log home to theirs, we realize how fortunate we are to have a Blue Ridge home. They are nota company who just builds your home and walks away. They still Contact us, asking how things are; do we still enjoy our horne. They are family.
